| Sooo.. I've been away for awhile and come back to find a xanga I hardly recognize. When did it get all fancy? It's too facebook-like now.. I miss the old school xanga..
On another note, I will soon have the title of "curator" under my belt. I am putting together a show for the study abroad trip I did to Mexico last summer. I hope it turns out well, but I'm a little nervous and curious how everything will get done. The opening is one week from tonight- Tuesday, February 26th from 5:00-7:00 pm. If you are anywhere close, it would be great to see you. The opening is basically a time when you can come see the show, eat Mexican food, and talk to the artists (there are 9 of us). The show will be up until mid-March, though. I may post some photos on here for a little mini-gallery.. This is the poster I made to advertise:

| i have received a request for an update- and this time from my mother... surprise- she knows what xanga is? haha
So, here i am in the heart of downtown wheaton in my favorite place in
town: La Spiaza coffeeshop. mochas and free wireless.. what more could
i hope for?
This coming monday will mark 3 weeks time in this corner of the world.
it's been great, really. fun to get away from the normal hectic-ness of
life and start anew. i'm staying with my cousin and her family and
really enjoying my time with them. Madeline is 11 and Mason is 9- very
fun ages- and they remind me so of my own siblings.
 I've also been
blessed to spend time with more of my cousins and extended relatives in
the area which is great fun, and involves driving all over the place.
i'm so happy to have a car and be able to do this kind of exploring and
the normal high number of wrong turns :) only wakeup call comes when
refueling- the median price per gallon is $3.25!
My purpose for being here is an internship with Tyndale House
Publishers- a Christian book publisher. What a unique learning
experience! the work environment in the design department is so much
fun- the people are crazy friendly and encouraging and have so much
fun. My tasks have been numerous and varied so far and have included
filing, archiving, entering metadata, and updating the design of HR
forms. Not necessarily my point of expertise, but in doing these little
jobs I am learning all the facets of book publishing- from acquisitions
to distribution. I also get to sit in on many meetings- creative and
business, and get to meet with each of the art directors and designers
and production artists individually to hear exactly what their role
their advice. What a blessing this has been- I respect them all so much
and they are eager to take the time to teach and share from their
experiences!
I've also found a loving community at the church my cousin and aunt
attend. I've been attending a small group and greatly enjoying the deep
conversations, encouragement, and accountability that this affords.
highlight of the day was a game of ultimate frisbee with some of my
coworkers and their friends. it revealed just how out-of-shape i am :(
but was a great time of fellowship.
what i'm looking forward to: a weekend with my dear friend rachel in
indiana, 2 weeks of housesitting, more chances to design at work, and
lots of free time to finish my 2nd summer sketchbook..

| tomorrow is our last day of mexico class and we´re having our sketchbook critique. pretty exciting. i can´t wait to see everyone else´s. the requirement was 25 pages of sketches and i think i´m currently at...60.. so i should be ok.. i hope to fill up my sketchbook by the end of guadalajara. i´m pretty sick of being a tourist- being stared at constantly and everyone automatically knowing we´re foreigners. can´t wait for the visit with selvia and hopefully a little more realistic picture of what it means to live in mexico and what mexicans are really like..
hasta luego. | | |
| hello, it's me. yes, i am alive and well after surviving the most stressful and busy semester yet. what a relief to be done and have 4 months of non-school activities. so, thursday i'm off to mexico with 9 of my classmates for a "Traveler's Sketchbook Tour". the cities are Querétero, Guanajuato, y San Miguel de Allende. sightseeing, museums, drawing the buildings, staying with families, and Spanish lessons for 2 weeks. THEN off to Guadalajara for a week with my long-lost mexican sister, Selvia! can't wait. it's been 4 years since i've seen her. one of my goals for this summer is to improve in correspondence- and preferably by snail-mail. SO, I would love it if you would message me your mailing address! for now, chao y Dios te bendiga! | | |
| been thinking a lot about stewardship lately... pretty much the time part. my life doesn't look like i'm managing someone else's time. it looks like somehow it's my time to use. there's no fulfillment in this. at all.
